Day Owl's Interview

My name is Dale Chapman.
I am 21 year old singer/songwriter from East Sussex.
I perform under the alias Day Owl as a solo artist.
Previously I have played in bands and as part of a duo.
I’m currently working in a school with children who have learning difficulties,
The holidays and the shorter hours allow me time to focus and dedicate myself to music.

When did you start making music?

I started playing guitar when i was 10 and throughout school i was part of various small bands. I then began recording covers as a due 3 years ago. We filmed them and uploaded them to YouTube and they received quite a high response. I have always been playing music with my friends and family since a young age.

What type of music do you make?

I have a tendency to lean towards the acoustic sounds but record with a full array of instruments I play myself on my songs.

What inspired your stage name?
I really like owls. I like the visual aspect of them and the word play the ties in with my real name.

What music do you listen to?

A huge variety. Anything.

What's your favourite album off all time?

I have so many. But to name a few, Linkin Park - Reanimation / Red Hot Chilli Peppers - By The Way / Atoms For Peace - AMOK

What is An interesting fact about yourself?

that’s a really hard question to answer.. but I think the most interesting thing about me is how long i have been playing, writing and recording music. I started playing guitar at 9 and recorded a song and played my first gig at 10.

Who are your main inspirations?

My main inspirations are every bit of music I listen to. A lot of people I meet and a lot of the places I go.

Would you rather live ten lives, each lasting 100 years as a different person each time, or one life as the same person for 1,000 years? And why?

Definitely a different person each time. that would be huge.

What production programme do you use and why?

Ableton live. I have always used it because I know a lot of the shortcuts and I find it the best for production and live recording.

What is your least favourite song of all time?

Imogen Heap - Hide & Seek

Is there anything you are currently working on that you would like to talk about?

I’m just focussing on getting my album finished. That’s the main priority.

What can we expect from you in the future?

Hopefully after the album is out i will start gigging and showing my face more!

Shout outs?

Harry Monson - https://soundcloud.com/harrymonson
